More Than Just a Park
It’s the extras at the McCormick Stillman Railroad Park that will add whimsy and wonder to your vacation experience. Offering a model railroad that has been known to ignite the fires of future railway modelers (as enthusiasts are known as) visitors will explore the charms of the 10,000-square-foot building that is home to four model railroad clubs, three layouts, eight different railroad scales, and a variety of unique exhibits and fun hands on activities. Designed to ensure that everyone can enjoy the displays, there are ramps at each layout that allow small children and people in wheelchairs a clear view of each train, person, and tiny automobile that are integral parts of the model railroad displays. Train videos play on two large video screens, captivating children of all ages just as the railroad displays will.
Scottsdale Railroad Museum
As adults we are supposed to show interest in historical museums, but quite frankly, we often find them boring and stuffy with the Scottsdale Railroad Museum offering a notable difference. Offering a fascinating counterpart to the model railroads, the museum on the park grounds is where you will find full-sized railroad cars, including a 1914 baggage car, while also offering a view into what was once noted as the finest machine shop in the country. Housed in the historic Peoria Depot, the Scottsdale Railroad Museum is one of our favorite parts of the park.
