Visit Website

There’s always time for a road trip, even when you are already in the midst of a wonderful Arizona vacation. Chances are you already know the story of Tombstone and the shootout at the OK Corral, and you may be aware that it is a true story—one that may have been embellished over the years, but true, nonetheless. What you might not know is that this charming western town is located less than 200 miles away from your very comfy and stylish Paseo Homes sanctuary, making it ideal activity to engage in during your stay.

Take I10 South to Get There

Tombstone, Arizona, is a town steeped in Wild West history and folklore, known for its iconic role in the American frontier. Nestled in the southeastern part of the state, Tombstone was a booming silver mining town in the late 19th century, famously home to legendary figures like Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, and the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Today, it preserves its Old West charm, with historic saloons, wooden boardwalks, and reenactments of the famous gunfight that took place in 1881. Visitors can explore landmarks like the Bird Cage Theatre, which once hosted Wild West shows and gambling, or the Boothill Graveyard, where notorious outlaws and lawmen rest in peace. Tombstone offers a fascinating journey back in time, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the rugged and adventurous spirit of the Old West.

Less Than 30 Seconds

One of the most fascinating parts of the Tombstone story, especially when you consider it took two or three hours to tell the story of the most famous gunfight in American history (depending on which version of the movie you watch) the actual shoot out lasted less than 30 seconds. Even the reenactments that take place at 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM, last at least 30 minutes, but that’s ok, we doubt you would want to pay extra for a 30 second fake fight anyway! Tickets can only be purchased at the OK Corral Historic complex on the day you are there and will cost you $10 per person.

More Than a Gunfight

If the reenactment was all you could experience during your travels to Tombstone, we don’t know if we would recommend it to our guests, but there is so much more to do while you are there. Shopping in cute little shops and boutiques, ordering a beer from the barkeep at Big Nose Kate’s Saloon, even searching for ghosts at the Bird Cage Theater, a former theater that is now a museum. The history of those wild and unruly times surrounds you, and guests can explore the actual room where Doc Holliday lived, examine the artifacts found at the Cowboy Bunkhouse which includes an 1880s Phaeton Buggy, and experience a wicked thrill when visiting the Prostitute’s Crib and learning the stories of the “soiled doves” who made their living there. When lunchtime arrives, the Crystal Palace Saloon allows you to steep yourself in the history of Tombstone while dining on juicy burgers, thick sandwiches, or topping loaded pizzas!
