The History
Constructed in 1912, the Verde Canyon Railroad brought hard working miners and their families to the mines where they sought their fortune. The depot still stands today, over 100 years later, and although the mines closed long ago and the railroad is more of a tourist attraction than a mode of transportation, it is still fascinating to learn the history of the town of Clarkdale and the railroad in the museum that takes up space in the depot. The trains you will be riding also offer a glimpse into history as the locomotive and the cars that are attached date back to the early and mid-20th century.
Celebrating the Holidays
In addition to their regular nature rides, during the holidays the renovated rail cars celebrate with special events and style. At Christmas, their Magical Christmas offers a round trip to the North Pole with a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, at Halloween you can experience Fright Nights on the Haunted Phantom Train, while the Chocolate Lovers Special sweetens Valentine’s Day, and the Easter Bunny Express will offer meet and greets with the Easter Bunny that will delight and amaze your children.
More Special Events
The holidays aren’t all that is celebrated at the Verde Canyon Railroad, offering nighttime rides, Saturday morning specials, Grape Train Escape (wine tastings), and the Ales on Rails beer festival in the fall. Reviving the luxury and romance of riding the railways, your time in Clarkdale will add even more magic to your Arizona adventures. And because the best vacations begin and end with Paseo Homes, coming home to Phoenix will bring more happy memories and comfortable adventures. Reserve your favorite escape today!
